Pink Flower

The daintiness of the this pink flower was what attracted me to it. It’s simple and fragile – as if asking me to look after it.

At the main entrance to the Norwich Castle are a few of these posters. Indeed when you tour the castle, it is quite easy to imagine yourself in times gone by because you are provided with vivid replicas of life as it was back in the Norman times. Even the dungeons would give you the creeps – with life-like wax work of prisoners before they were transported to Australia.

It may look as if this structure is about to give, but it’s not. The slanting wood pieces are from oak trees. Back in the olden days, people would use oak to build houses. If they used mature oak trees, it would be pointless as they would impossible to cut. So they used young oak trees. However, since they were cut while they were still young, the tendency was for them to keep growing, thus either creating the diagonal line or when used horizontally, they form wavy lines.
This house over a hundred years ago was left to the city’s mayor by his father. Now it is a building for the Antiques Centre and offices for the Norfolk and Norwich Festival and other organisations.

A stone’s throw away from La Tasca on Tombland St is this beautiful building, occupied by solicitors. How lucky, eh? I just love period houses. They have so much character and charm.
