Inside St Peter

inside st peter

The structure of St Peter inside is a bit similar to St John’s Cathedral, but I’m sure Dive will be able to differentiate the two :)

The interior of the church is beautiful and the light that comes inside makes the inside more warm and comfortable.

That’s a lovely photo - it’s so difficult to photograph the inside of churches, but you’ve done really well there. What an impressive building.

    Gosh yes, Joy.
This is very late gothic “perpendicular” with thin tracery on huge windows and slender columns to let in more light. Contrast it with the photos I took inside the cathedral: the massively thick Norman columns supporting Romanesque arches. Technology had come a long way in the three hundred years between the two buildings, but I must confess I still prefer the earlier style (I’m just old).

I love St Peter Mancroft. My favourite memory of the church is of going to a confirmation service there in 1990. There was snow on the ground outside, and it was very quiet in the city centre. As the people being confirmed went forward to the altar, I looked up and saw the shadows of pigeons flying about, projected onto the stone walls through those wonderful big windows.

Joy, I see what you meant when you said you have churches in your part of the world like our St Peters Cathedral.
