Funnily enough I bought four painted elephants in Bangalore yesterday: token Christmas tree decorations for friends and family whom I’ll be seeing again in a copule of days on a brief return to the UK. Judgin by his ears I’d say that your chap is an Indian elephant - and it looks as though he’s just been playing Holi.

Really fun and delightful. Where my mother live in Billings, MT, USA. They have painted horse statues just as they have elephants there. Really such eye catchers!
