Self-Service Library

A nifty new machine at the Millennium Library – it scans stacks of books put under it and voila, your books have been either issued or returned. How easy is it to borrow/return books at your library?

What a difference from the “good old days”!
I haven’t been to the library for so long I don’t have a clue as to how the system works. I buy the books I want to read and then turn them into a used book store for credit on other books that I buy.

Hi from Kuala Lumpur!! The KL Library near Dataran Merdeka has this system in place, from what I remember.
Have visited Norwich several times on visits to Beccles, Stokesby, Waveney River Centre. Love Norwich.

Modern and efficient indeed. Interesting picture, Joy.
(I buy the books I need).

Hi-tech!
But I wonder how their system works on penalizing those borrowers who are not returning the books…

Joy, I left an answer on the Leeds Photo Daily re the Black Prince.
Neat idea, I use the library at least weekly mostly to glance through newspapers to see any of my friends photos.

At our local library, the librarian scan the books you are checking out and gives you a reminder receipt on when they are due. When you return them, you just dump them in slots, located inside and outside the library.

I’ve never been to the library for a long time and I don’t know how it works now
but yours I think is more high tech.

We have a similar system here. Just seems somewhat, unnatural.

This is so cool, we can only scan one book at a time but I think this is faster

I’m with Jacob, I allways buy the books I want to read, so I don’t know how things work here at libraries, sorry… but this system looks really cool!

We also have self-service using scan machines at my local library in New York. When I want to renew an item, all I do is log online. Another good thing, we can also request books to borrow through the library’s website.

Our machines in Bexley are just like that. I love playing on them but I wish the library next to my work in London Bridge would reopen. Maybe they too will have fancy machines after the refurbishments.
