Sigh. Such a lovely house. Maybe I’d knock on this door one time and ask if I could have a look around. What are the chances they’d let me?

By now you know my propensity to take snaps of pretty and colourful houses. I can’t help it. To me pretty houses are works of art. Besides, whoever owns these houses obviously lovingly thought of how they create a nice home for themselves. I like that.

It may look as if this structure is about to give, but it’s not. The slanting wood pieces are from oak trees. Back in the olden days, people would use oak to build houses. If they used mature oak trees, it would be pointless as they would impossible to cut. So they used young oak trees. However, since they were cut while they were still young, the tendency was for them to keep growing, thus either creating the diagonal line or when used horizontally, they form wavy lines.
This house over a hundred years ago was left to the city’s mayor by his father. Now it is a building for the Antiques Centre and offices for the Norfolk and Norwich Festival and other organisations.

Walking around the city I chanced upon this house and it just took my breath away. My camera probably didn’t do it enough justice, but to me it looks like a little castle. How jealous am I of the people living in this house?! They were having a dinner party when I was trying to shoot the house and the guests were looking at me through the window with a confused look on their faces.
